Welcome to the Roy Miller High School Fabulous 60’s Hall of Fame. This site was created to recognize and preserve the accomplishments, service, and memories of Roy Miller High School graduates from the 1960’s. In addition to this Hall of Fame site, I also help manage the Roy Miller HS Fabulous 60’s Association Facebook Group where classmates gather to share photographs, stories, and memories from our school days. Our community celebrates alumni through activities such as the Buc Gem Awards and the Fabulous 60’s Hall of Honor, recognizing the lives and contributions of Roy Miller graduates. This project is dedicated to preserving the history, friendships, and Buccaneer spirit of the Fabulous 60’s generation. And as Mister Buccaneer would say — the Alma Mater moves fast… so hold tight, Matey! ⚓

RICHARD "RICK" ALEXANDER SANCHEZ CLASS OF 1967 HALL OF HONOR INDUCTED 10-13-25 IN MEMORIAM

HALL OF HONOR MEMBER IN MEMORIAM

Richard Alexander Sanchez

(1949 to 07-06-23)

Richard “Rick” Alexander Sanchez graduated from Roy Miller 1967 passed away July 6, 2023 at the age of 74.  He enlisted in the US Air Force after graduating and spent from 1968 to 1972 in the Air Force.  He spent an obligatory tour on one year in South Vietnam and earned the rank of SSGT by the time his enlistment was over; he would later be employed by CCAD and Tropical Realty.  Also known as the “Prez-Richard”, or better known as “Rick”, led The Texas Jazz Festival for more than 20 years, creating a legacy that is known all over the Coastal Bend.  He is credited for outstanding records that The Texas Jazz Festival maintains today.

Rick was a founding member of The Veterans Band of Corpus Christi with Ram Chavez, Beto Garcia, and Wanda Gregory. He was the first treasurer and was instrumental in fund raising to assist the band in their needs. It was a dream come true to spend his 40th birthday in Washington D.C. marching with the band in George Bush, Sr., Inaugural parade.

He was happiest playing Santa Claus at the schools and for several families. He still played Santa while using his motorized chair, and explained to the kids that he had an accident with his reindeer.  Rick was survived by his wife Gail Soto Sanchez, children: Richard A. Sanchez, Jr. (Pam Conley), Jennifer Gail Sanchez (Cari Hartmann) and grandchildren.
